The toddler, who was not identified, died at a local hospital. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, prosecutors said.

A 3-year-old child was struck and killed by a vehicle in East Sandwich Sunday afternoon, officials announced.

Sandwich police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the Service Road in East Sandwich between the Quaker Meeting House and Chase Road around 3:30 p.m., Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois said Sunday evening.

First responders found an injured 3-year-child, the DA said, who was brought to a local hospital and died.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, the DA said. No other details were released “due to the ongoing investigation and the sensitive nature of the incident,” Galibois’s office said in a statement.

“The thoughts of our agencies are with the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time,” the statement said.
