It’s a good time to be a Greater Boston diner, with exciting and diverse restaurant openings occurring all over the metro area in 2025 and much more to look forward to in the new year.

Each week, Boston.com will highlight the restaurant openings worth knowing about across the Greater Boston region. Some spots will already be open, while others are set to debut before the end of 2025 or in early 2026. At least one featured restaurant will always be a bonus item — either a pop-up, a collaboration, or event at area restaurants.

What’s new in Greater Boston restaurant openings this week

Acapella by X

No more are the days that residents in and around Dorchester have to leave the neighborhood for a grand night on the town now that a new, swanky restaurant and live music space has landed in Fields Corner. At Acapella by X, there’s a dress code, valet, and menu of craft cocktails and Latin and Spanish-inspired dishes, like the Peruvian Cornish hen and Pintxos.

Open now (November 2025)

1505 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester

Cactus Club Cafe lounge.

Cactus Club Cafe

A Canadian-based restaurant that touts its offerings as “elevated everyday dining” is bringing its first American outpost to Boston. It’s not to be confused with the now-closed, Tex-Mex Cactus Cafe that was also located in Back Bay; this Cactus Club offers a vast menu of shareable dishes and entrees, including sushi, a seafood platter, sandwiches, and signature steaks.

Open now (December 2025)

500 Boylston St., Back Bay

My Girl.

My Girl

Just below the modern, Cuban-inspired restaurant Mariel is an upscale cocktail lounge that does more than sling martinis and banana old fashioneds across a sleek bar. My Girl, also inspired by 1950s Havana, offers bites — like tuna puffs and chicken skewers — and will host musical guests, from piano sets to late-night DJs.

Open now (December 2025)

10 Post Office Square, Downtown Boston

Plazita Mexico Tacos in Watertown.

Plazita Mexico Tacos

Considered some of the best tacos in Greater Boston by The Boston Globe, this taqueria is expanding into a third location in Medford Square. Tacos come four to an order in homemade tortillas, with a choice of meat or veggie, and homemade red and green salsas on the side.

Opening date: Early 2026

49 High St., Medford

Bonus: Shirley Eat More Sunshine at Gracenote Coffee

Nothing pairs better with coffee than a freshly baked breakfast pastry, which is why this December pop-up is a must. Shirley’s baked goods (specifically maple-y pear muffins, kimchi cheddar scones, eggnog coffee cake, and more) are headed across the river from Davis Square to Gracenote Boston’s tiny espresso bar for two Saturdays only.

Event details: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20.

108 Lincoln St., Leather District
