In Greater Boston’s dining scene, there’s always a new restaurant opening to celebrate or a fresh update coming to one of the city’s delicious eateries. In the months ahead, we have major restaurant openings from Michelin chefs and famous New York restaurateurs, as well as a swell of diverse and delicious smaller restaurants joining our neighborhoods.

Each week, Boston.com will highlight the restaurant openings worth knowing about across the region. Some spots will already be open, while others are set to debut in 2026. At least one featured restaurant will always be a bonus item — either a pop-up, a collaboration, or event at area restaurants.

What’s new in Greater Boston restaurant openings this week

Nohri

The blending of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines — known as Nikkei — is a concept that makes a lot of delicious sense, and luckily Boston just got another spot featuring the marriage of Japanese technique and Peruvian ingredients. Nohri’s menu is predominantly handrolls, like the spicy tuna with red curry or the Nantucket bay scallop in foie gras, but there are also two tasting menu options and some ceviches available.

Open now (January 2026)

5 Tyler St., Chinatown

Novo Lantern

Replacing the Nan Xiang Express is another soup dumpling restaurant from the same restaurant group, according to What Now Boston. Novo Lantern’s menu offers handmade dumplings, stuffed with pork or crab roe, but it also features wok-fried plates and noodle or rice dishes, such as sizzling king oyster mushrooms, Dan Dan gnocchi, and Singapore rice noodles.

Open now (January 2026)

1750 Washington St., South End

Umami Crudo

From the team behind Umami Omakase comes a more casual sushi spot in the North End, reports Boston magazine. Its menu differs in that it offers mostly a la carte sushi options, like pieces of Hokkaido scallops or a lobster tempura roll, but there are still four omakase options for those willing to splurge a little.

Open now (December 2025)

78 Salem St., North End

Uptown Social

Southern Hospitality is coming to Boston’s South End with a new concept from restaurateur Nia Grace. Its executive chef, Chelven Randolph, told Boston magazine that the menu would feature elevated Southern dishes — fish and grits in Creole cream and chicken nuggets topped with creme fraiche and caviar, for example —  as well as craft cocktails and live music.

Opening date: Early 2026

604 Columbus Ave., South End

Bonus: Retro Room

Back Bay Social has added a listening lounge to its basement, complete with turntables spinning records and a mid-century modern aesthetic. Fitting for its nostalgic vibe, the menu is comfort food, like fish sticks, burgers, and a daily TV Dinner tray. Craft cocktails include the gin Lilac Lullaby, the coffee-forward La Maria, and friends can share a select few cocktails in a large disco ball.

Open now (January 2026)

867 Boylston St., Back Bay
