New Movies Streaming
‘Elio’ (2025)
“Elio” is a classic Pixar premise: An alienated young boy who lost his parents makes contact with aliens, who, after bringing him onboard, introduce him to a fantastical universe. It’s not the best Pixar movie they’ve ever made, but its catastrophic box office performance earlier this year was undeserved. Unless we want Pixar to only produce sequels going forward, you’ve got to give their original stories a try, too.

‘Sneakers’ (1992)
There are countless Robert Redford movies you could watch this weekend to honor one of film’s all-time greats, who passed away Tuesday at 89. Frustratingly, however, a lot of his all-time best roles — from “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid” to “All the President’s Men” — are only available to rent.
One that is available (to YouTube TV subscribers), however, is this breezy heist film starring Redford as a hacker wunderkind on a mission gone wrong. Redford is clearly having a blast, and the supporting cast (Ben Kingsley! River Phoenix! Dan Aykroyd! Sidney Poitier!!!) is incredible.

‘Gen V’ (Season 2)
Prime Video has kept its superhero hot streak going by spinning off its satirical “The Boys” with a Gen Z version — or a “Gen V” version, I suppose. Set at the Harvard of superhero schools, “Gen V” has heroes whose powers feel like punchlines, or at the very least, designed to maximize think pieces by cultural critics.
Marie (Jaz Sinclair) uses her period blood as a weapon. Emma (Lizze Broadway) can shrink, but only by puking. And much like the elite superhero squad The Seven in “The Boys,” image and branding trump any sort of powers or actual crime fighting, as the campus bad bullies — who wield social media like a blade — quickly prove.

‘The Morning Show’ (Season 4)
After the cliffhanger ending of Season 3, the new season of “The Morning Show” finds Alex (Jennifer Aniston), Bradley (Reese Witherspoon), Cory (Billy Crudup) and Paul (Jon Hamm) on their own separate paths. We’ve fast-forwarded to 2024, which means summer Olympics, bro podcasters, and whatever else happened in 2024 that I’ve conveniently blocked from my mind.
Despite some fun guest appearances from Jeremy Irons and Marion Cotillard, “The Morning Show” and its ever-heightening absurdity started to wear thin for me. But if you’ve been totally on board up to this point, you’ll probably still find plenty to like.

‘Task’ (Limited Series)
Fans of HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” will likely enjoy Brad Ingelsby’s follow-up series, another gritty crime drama set in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Instead of Kate Winslet, it’s Mark Ruffalo playing a law enforcement protagonist whose investigative efforts are tinged by personal tragedy. Ruffalo is reliably excellent, but it’s probably a good thing HBO is releasing these episodes weekly instead of all at once, because this story is, to put it lightly, a real bummer.
