New Movies Streaming

‘F1 The Movie’ (2025)

Apple TV put a lot of faith in Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick”) and Brad Pitt, reportedly dropping $300 million on this Formula 1 racing drama, and the bet paid off. Pitt is electric as an over-the-hill driver called back into action to help train a hotheaded rookie (Damson Idris). The real star, however, is the filmmaking, with Kosinski equipping six F1 cars with special cameras custom-built into the vehicles. When Pitt is out on the race course, you feel every bump and every hair-raising turn.

‘Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues’ (2025)

More than 40 years after the “loudest band in Britain” cranked the satire up to 11, the lads of Spinal Tap (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer) are back. Riffing on the cash-in nature of a long-awaited legacy sequel, the band is reuniting for one last concert after 15 years apart. While nothing will match “This Is Spinal Tap” in the annals of mockumentary history, “The End Continues” has more than enough laughs to make it worthwhile.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery‘ (2025)

Rian Johnson’s 2019 whodunnit “Knives Out” has quietly become a holiday tradition in some households. The picturesque New England fall landscape, the dysfunctional family gathering, and the coziness of Chris Evans’ sweater all add to the general comfort of watching Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) unravel a confounding mystery.

The third entry in the franchise, “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” might be better suited for Halloween — or, given its subject matter, Easter Sunday, as Father Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor, “Challengers”) tries to solve how the fiery Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin) has seemingly risen from the dead. New TV Shows Streaming

‘Fallout’

Before it returns for a second season on Dec. 17, catch up on Prime Video’s “Fallout,” one of the best TV shows of 2024. Similar to prestige video game adaptation “The Last of Us,” no prior knowledge is needed to appreciate “Fallout,” which introduces us to a destroyed America 219 years after nuclear annihilation. Creator Jonathan Nolan (“Westworld”) takes a lot of the best elements from “Lost,” pitting tribes of survivors against each other while also teasing a larger mystery as to who exactly is behind all of the devastation.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians’

Speaking of hit shows returning for a second season this week, the YA series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is back for another Greek mythology-inspired romp. In Season 1, Percy (Walker Scobell) finds out he is the son of Poseidon, and must recover Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt. In Season 2, based on Rick Riordan’s The Sea of Monsters, Percy must team up with his fellow demigod teenagers at Camp Half-Blood to stop Kronos from overthrowing the natural order. If nothing else, the show is a great reminder that Greek myths are timeless.
