After six years of construction, a new parking garage at the North Quincy MBTA station is finally opening Monday, according to The Patriot Ledger.

Located at 189 Hancock St., construction on the garage began Feb. 17, 2019, to replace the original surface-level parking lot at the station, according to an MBTA project page. The new garage features over 1,500 parking spaces, with 852 spots dedicated to MBTA parking and 700 spots reserved for residential and retail use.

Daily parking rates are $5 on weekdays and $3 on weekends, with overnight parking allowed, an MBTA spokesperson told The Patriot Ledger. Commuters are advised to use the PayByPhone app to cover their parking.

The garage was built as part of a redevelopment project by Hancock Street Partners, according to the MBTA. The project was completed in phases to minimize disruptions to station access and parking, so commuters were required to park elsewhere.

That additional parking lot, located at Newport Avenue, will no longer be available for commuters and instead will be reserved for MBTA “internal operations,” a spokesperson told The Patriot Ledger. Pedestrian access will remain open, however, and a “park and pedal” bike cage will be added later on.
