A West Roxbury man died Tuesday after he suffered fatal injuries in a workplace accident in Avon, officials said.
David Morais, 28, has been identified as the victim, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Avon police said in a statement. He was moving a stack of plywood at Materia Millwork when the incident happened, they said.
Avon’s police and fire departments responded to a 911 call reporting the “industrial accident” just before 3 p.m., fire officials said on Facebook. Morais, who suffered a fatal head injury, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are heartbroken to share that our teammate, David, lost his life in a tragic accident,” Materia Millwork said in an Instagram post. “David was more than a valued member of our team. He was a friend, a craftsman, and someone we were lucky to know. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
State Police, Avon police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are all investigating the accident, according to the DA’s office.
