Built in 1964, the three-bed, two-and-a-half bath home at 28 Joyce Road in Wayland is an impeccable display of Mid-century style. But it wasn’t always in such perfect condition.

“No, it wasn’t,” said Victoria Anfuso of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services/Robert Paul Properties, who lives in the home and shares the listing with Paul Grover.

But with the help of her designer husband, they transformed the space. “When we were looking, the house had a perfect foundation. Most of the things that needed to be done were cosmetic.”

It’s now listed for $1,199,000.

A driveway leads up to a one-car garage. Climb the front steps to the home’s front door and step into the foyer, which splits into two levels. Head up a few stairs to the main level — a tranquil space overflowing with natural light thanks to high ceilings and several skylights. A right turn takes you into the living room, where a wood-burning fireplace is surrounded by brick. The open-concept space flows naturally into the dining room, where hardwood floors continue.

The adjoining kitchen, located on the opposite side of the brick, features high-end appliances, two skylights, and green/blue cabinetry that contrasts with the black alligator skin tiling on the floor. A sliding door leads directly out to the back deck, while another sliding door off the living room leads out to the screened-in porch. Large windows and glass doors letting the outside in are hallmarks of Mid-century design.

The primary bedroom features the same pine ceilings and hardwood floors as the rest of the home and has an attached bathroom of its own.

On the lower level, a cozy family room is perfect for gathering to catch a movie. You’ll find another working fireplace down there, surrounded by brick. There’s an expanded study area, perfect for working from home, and a laundry room.

Don’t miss the sauna on the back deck if you’re looking to really luxuriate. The half-acre lot, surrounded by natural forests and featuring a flat, grassy yard, is the ideal spot to soak up Wayland’s natural beauty. Anfuso noted how unusual it is to find something under $2 million with that much land in the area.

Dudley Pond is also just a few minutes away and is very popular with town residents.
