The Patriots made a bit of a surprising move on Saturday, placing wide receiver Mack Hollins on injured reserve ahead of their week 17 matchup against the Jets.

Mack Hollins is dealing with an abdominal injury. He finished Sunday night’s game against the Ravens but did not participate in practice during the week. Now he’ll be out a minimum of four games, meaning he wouldn’t be eligible to return until at least the AFC championship game.

If New England earns the No. 1 seed in the AFC, Hollins won’t be able to make his return until the Super Bowl.

While Hollins came in as somewhat of an under-the-radar free agent signing, he has been a consistent offensive target for Drake Maye. Hollins has the third most receptions (46) and receiving yards (550) among all Patriots players.

New England will be out a few key players on Sunday, including Hollins, Robert Spillane, Milton Williams, Kayshon Boutte, and Harold Landry.

But there is some good news for the Patriots regarding the injury report. TreVeyon Henderson cleared concussion protocol on Saturday and should be able to play against the Jets.

Even with his slow start to the year, Henderson is New England’s leading rusher with 776 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s third in rushing yards among all rookies, only trailing rushing leader Ashton Jeanty by 52 yards.

Patriots-Jets kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday in a game that could impact the winner of the AFC East.
