Florida authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have suffered from a “medical episode” at the time of the crash.
A Massachusetts woman was killed Saturday in Fort Pierce, Florida, when a Jeep crashed through her residential pool area while she was sunbathing, authorities said.
At approximately 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 7, the Fort Pierce Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting that a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the 1600 block of Laurel Leaf Lane, according to a statement from the department.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found that the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 38-year-old woman, had gone off the roadway, crashed through hedges and fencing, and entered a residential pool area, according to police reports. The Jeep struck 65-year-old Anastasia Fiona Allman while she was sunbathing, police said.
The Jeep continued through additional fencing and landscaping, hitting the side of the residence and trapping Allman beneath the vehicle, according to the police department. Allman, a Massachusetts resident, was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver’s name has not been released. The Fort Pierce Police Department said a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have suffered from a “medical episode” at the time of the crash. The driver was transported to a local hospital and has since been released in stable condition, police reported.
The incident is still under investigation, the police department said.
