“There is no sugar-coating this. It’s bad out here. The worst in years and it’s not over yet.”

Local officials continued to implore drivers to stay off the roads Monday amid blizzard conditions.
In Kingston, a plow driver just barely missed getting impaled by a fallen tree branch, about 6 inches in diameter, which had smashed through the truck’s windshield, police shared in a Facebook post.
“Please, stay off the roads,” the department reminded the public. “There is no sugar-coating this. It’s bad out here. The worst in years and it’s not over yet.”
Boston-area meteorologists are predicting snowfall totals between 18 and 24 inches. Some areas already reported close to 20 inches by Monday morning.
High winds and heavy, wet snow caused widespread power outages across the region, MBTA service interruptions, and canceled flights at Logan Airport.
“Roads are plowed and immediately begin to get covered again,” Kingston police said. “Winds are extreme and blowing branches onto lines and the road.”
Police did not report any injuries to the plow driver, but said the incident was a close one, “piercing the windshield, and landing between the operator’s legs, going through the seat and missing impaling him by just inches.”
While local and state authorities continue to respond to various needs amid the storm, police added, “We will be out here if you need us but if you can — stay home.”
