Morning Sports Update
“I’m expecting the stadium to be loud here on Tuesday.”

The Yankees sound off on another Red Sox series: Following the end of the MLB regular season on Sunday, the postseason field was officially set. For the Red Sox, it means yet another playoff series against the rival Yankees.
The two teams meet in the wild-card round starting on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium in a best-of-three series.
Asked about the prospect of facing Boston, New York manager Aaron Boone referenced Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet.
“Great team. Obviously have had a great season. I’m sure we’re going to see a great pitcher on Tuesday,” Boone told reporters, “but I know our guys are all looking forward to it too.”
Yankees slugger Aaron Judge echoed his manager’s thoughts.
“It’s a ball club with a great lineup, obviously good starting pitching, good back-end of their bullpen,” Judge said of the Red Sox. “We’ve had some battles with them all year, and [we’re] looking forward to another fun series.”
Judge was also focused on the prospect of facing Crochet in a postseason game. Crochet finished the regular season 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA and 255 strikeouts in his debut Red Sox campaign.
“He’s a tough matchup,” Judge said of Crochet. “That’s probably why he’s if not one of the best, [then] the best pitcher in the game right now and probably on his way to a Cy Young [Award]. It’s impressive what he’s done this year, and I’m looking forward to facing him.”
As for New York hosting the entire series, Judge spoke expectantly of the support he anticipates from Yankees fans amid another rivalry series.
“We’ve got a rowdy crowd out there,” Judge said of New York fans. “They’ve been behind us all year long, even in our tough times in times in the summer. They were still showing out, supporting us, so they’re definitely going to be excited for Yankees-Red Sox postseason matchup, that’s for sure. So I’m expecting the stadium to be loud here on Tuesday.”
Scores and schedules:
The Red Sox defeated the Tigers 4-3 on Sunday to close out the 2025 regular season. Boston will face old rivals, the Yankees, in the three-game postseason series starting on Tuesday at 6:08 p.m. in the Bronx.

Europe repeated as Ryder Cup champion: Despite a furious comeback effort from the Americans on Sunday, Europe was able to hold on.
On this day: In 2018, a Red Sox fan seated on top of the Green Monster threw back a home run ball hit by Giancarlo Stanton during a Yankees-Red Sox game. Stanton, caught off guard by the ball lightly tapping him in the leg amid his home run trot, tipped his cap. New York won that day, 8-5, but would lose to Boston in the eventual playoff series.
Daily highlight: Speaking of the Green Monster, enjoy a perfectly executed grab and throw off the iconic wall via Jarren Duran, who managed to get the runner at second base for the out.
