Boston 25 News announced the promotion of Shiri Spear to chief meteorologist this week.

In her new role, Spear “will oversee the station’s weather coverage across all platforms, lead the team of weather experts, guide severe weather strategy, and participate in community outreach efforts,” an announcement from the station noted.

All the while, she will continue to anchor weather coverage as a familiar face on Boston 25 Morning News.

“Shiri exemplifies everything we value at Boston 25 News,” said Vice President and General Manager Todd Brown. “Her deep knowledge of the weather, commitment to keeping our community safe, and her genuine care for the community make her the perfect choice for Chief Meteorologist. We are thrilled she will continue to start each morning with our audience.”

Spear’s promotion follows an announcement last month that Kevin Lemanowicz would be stepping down as head meteorologist. On Friday, Lemanowicz said goodbye after three decades with the station, having been with Boston 25 since its start in 1996.

“It’s such an honor to take over the role of Chief and build on what Kevin has grown here over the last 30 years,” said Spear in the announcement of her promotion. “Boston has some of the best of the best meteorologists from broadcast, the private sector, and our local National Weather Service.”

Spear holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education and a master’s degree in atmospheric and environmental science, and is a certified broadcast meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society, Boston 25 reported.

“I’m excited to grow our station’s weather coverage across all platforms,” she added in the statement. “As a mom too, I’m proud to show my daughters that you can work hard at a job you love and find fulfillment.”
