Boston Legacy FC announce the signing of Sophia Lowenberg (Boston Legacy FC).

As Boston Legacy FC prepare for their inaugural season in the NWSL, they announced the signing of midfielder Sophia Lowenberg on Wednesday. Lowenberg signed a two-year deal with the Legacy, with a club option to renew for one year.

The Connecticut native played four years at Boston College as a midfielder and defender, where she scored seven goals to go along with two assists. The 2025 season was her highest scoring campaign, with three.

As a result of her roots in the northeast, Lowenberg is grateful to be staying close to home.

“I’m excited that it’s a new team so that I can really feel part of the whole entire journey,” Lowenberg said in a release. “Along with just remaining in Boston – I’m from Connecticut, which is down the road – and then also going to Boston College, continuing to play in Boston will be a great experience.”

The Legacy will make their NWSL debut on March 14, 2026 at Gillette Stadium. They will eventually play home games at White Stadium in Boston, but will be at Gillette for the 2026 season while renovations are being done.

“Sophia is a player with real potential, and we’re looking forward to supporting her growth as she takes this next step,” said Legacy FC general manager Domè Guasch. “She brings the character, ambition, and work ethic we value in our environment. As a New Englander and an upcoming Boston College alum, she already understands this community, and we’re excited to have her continue her journey in Boston as part of Boston Legacy FC.”

As an expansion team, the Legacy are working their way towards the league requirement of 22 rostered players before the start of the 2026 season.
