A Boston man and his two dogs were rescued after the truck they were in went off the road and landed in the Matfield River.

Around 3:55 a.m. on Wednesday, East Bridgewater police and fire received a report of a crash on Pleasant Street near North Central Street.

The white Ford F-150 left the roadway while navigating a curve, went over the guardrail, and came to rest on its side in the river, the fire department says.

The man was removed from the vehicle via a stokes basket stretcher and transported via ambulance to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two dogs were brought to the VCA South Shore Weymouth Animal Hospital. One of the dogs sustained more serious injuries than the other, but their condition is unknown at this time, the fire department says.

The pickup truck was later removed from the water and the crash was cleared by 5:56 a.m., the fire department says.

“This was a difficult scene in the middle of the night, and I want to commend our firefighters, police officers, and mutual aid partners for their teamwork in rescuing both the driver and his dogs,” East Bridgewater Fire Chief John Dzialo said.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing by East Bridgewater police.
