Picture it — Buddy the Elf, but it’s Boston 2025.
A Massachusetts influencer has gone viral for putting a distinctly local spin on the Christmas movie classic “Elf.”
Boston foodie and social media creator Colton Cunningham — known on TikTok and Instagram as @beefeatsfirst — recently donned the iconic green elf costume made famous by the hit 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Zooey Deschanel.
Cunningham told NBC Boston that he originally bought the costume as a gag for a 5K race. But instead of retiring the outfit, he decided to get a little more mileage out of it — by touring Boston as Ferrell’s beloved character, Buddy the Elf.
In a now-viral video, Cunningham reimagines “Elf” as if it were filmed in locally rather than in New York City.
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is cussing loud for all to hear!” Cunningham captioned the post. “Elf if it was shot in Boston…”
While the original movie features Buddy marveling at New York landmarks, Cunningham’s version swaps Big Apple attractions for Beantown’s finest locations — including the city’s most famous coffee chain.
That’s right: Buddy stopped by Dunkin’, where he congratulated patrons on having the “World’s Best Cup of Coffee,” a nod to one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
“I love doing skits … and why not my first skit on social media be Elf just running around Boston,” Cunningham told NBC Boston.
He said everyone went “dead silent” during the skit at Dunkin, and his cameraman made a swift exit.
“My friend who was behind me video taping was so embarrassed that he actually ended the video short and bailed out of there,” Cunningham said.
Buddy’s Boston tour didn’t stop there. He hugged Wally the Green Monster at Fenway Park, took a spin down the infamous City Hall cop slide, and visited local watering holes, where he drank pints of Guinness — topped with maple syrup, of course.
But Cunningham’s Buddy spread the sugary goodness on more than just his beer. He also stopped by James Hook for a lobster roll, which he also doused in syrup.
“I myself would give it a thumbs down,” he said.
Other notable stops Buddy visited the Zakim Bridge, the Massachusetts State House, the Public Garden, and Kowloon Restaurant — yes, we know it’s Saugus, but it’s still iconic.
