“He’s riding a rocket up the Ladder, moving five spots this week, the largest leap of anyone this season.”

Although the Celtics’ five-game win streak ended Thursday night in a 116-101 loss to the Bucks, Jaylen Brown put up another impressive performance.
The Celtics star scored 30 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field in Thursday’s loss, marking the fourth straight game he put up at least 30 points. One of those made baskets was a last-second shot at the end of the first quarter. has picked up the slack in the scoring category while Jayson Tatum is out, and has shown that he can handle it. He put up 30 points for the fourth game in a row, shooting 10-of-17 from the field, including a last second shot to end the first quarter.
But Brown has picked up the slack in the scoring department with Jayson Tatum out, and has shown that he can handle it. Now, he’s starting to get recognized for it in a big way.
Brown’s recent performances helped him move past five other players in the most recent NBA.com MVP ladder, jumping up to the No. 5 spot.
“He’s riding a rocket up the Ladder, moving five spots this week, the largest leap of anyone this season,” NBA.com’s Shaun Powell wrote. “And it’s all because Brown is not only on pace to average a career high in scoring and playing the best stretch of basketball in his career — the 2024 NBA Finals would like a word, though — as he has done the unexpected and is pulling the Celtics up with him.”
Brown is averaging 29.1 points per game this season as he has led the Celtics to a 15-10 record.
Prior to the start of the season, people didn’t have high hopes for the Celtics with Tatum sidelined. However, behind Brown’s scoring, they’ve moved into third in the Eastern Conference and have recently looked like the team we’ve seen in recent years.
“He’s doing Jayson Tatum’s job as well as Tatum, at least for the moment,” Powell continued. “Over the last six games, Brown has looked every bit like a top-tier player.”
Brown and the Celtics will look to get back on track on Monday as they host the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons.
