David Pastrnak is having a career year when it comes to creating scoring chances for his linemates.

The superstar forward is routinely landing on Bruins highlight reels — which isn’t unusual for him. But Pastrnak is doing it with his passing even more than his scoring, which is a bit uncharacteristic.

Pastrnak has averaged at least 1.00 points per game for the last eight seasons. However, he’s never had as big of a gap in his goals versus assists since making the NHL. Pastrnak is averaging .91 assists per game, which would be a career high by a fairly wide margin. He’s recorded more goals than assists in three of the last six seasons prior to this year. Yet, in 2025-26 he has double the number of assists as goals (21 goals, 43 assists).

As a result, Morgan Geekie has turned into a bonafide NHL star, hovering near or at the top of the NHL in goal scoring for most of the season.

And on Saturday night, it was that very duo creating magic to help spark Boston’s offense. Pastrnak made a nifty move, flipping the puck to himself through the offensive zone before finding a wide open Geekie on the back post. All the attention went to Pastrnak, and all Geekie had to do was field the puck cleanly and fire it at a virtually empty net in front of him.

“I tried to cut middle, I see [Geekie] coming late with another defender, and I know automatically that if I don’t beat my D I’m going to look for Geeks one timer,” Pastrnak said after the game. “Today he was all the way down towards the net front. … With the move I made, most of the time you’re not going to get a good look out of it, but I was trying to buy time for Geeks to get to the spot and he did.”

The Bruins beat the Canadiens 4-3 on Saturday thanks to a pair of goals by Geekie. But nothing stood out more than yet another highlight-worthy play with Pastrnak acting as the facilitator.

Boston, meanwhile, is hovering near the cut line for playoff contention past the midway point of the season. It sits at 62 points currently, which is fifth in the Atlantic division but sixth in the Eastern Conference as a whole.

Pastrnak’s dangerous passing has made him an even bigger threat offensively, which bodes well for the Bruins’ playoff chances down the stretch. One score games like Saturday’s can quickly turn with Pastrnak on the ice.
