Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey ranks among the nation’s most popular governors, according to new polling from Morning Consult.

The survey, which ran from July through September 2025, shows Healey with a 59 percent approval rating and a 29 percent disapproval rating. Twelve percent of voters said they were undecided.

The approval ratings place the democratic governor in the top 10 nationally, ahead of several high-profile governors, including Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer and California’s Gavin Newsom.

According to its website, Morning Consult is a global decision intelligence company that surveys 6,000 Americans daily on key political and electoral issues.

The company’s U.S. Governor Approval Outlook is dubbed its “definitive quarterly guide to U.S. voters’ views of America’s governors.” The survey didn’t delve into voter motivations or reasons for governor approval.

Topping the list was Phil Scott (R-VT), who scored first place with a 75 percent approval rating. Two other republican governors rounded out the top three, with Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) coming in second and Mark Gordon (R-WY) nabbing third place.

According to the survey, Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) was America’s most unpopular governor for the seventh quarter in a row, with a 53 percent disapproval rating.

Healey was elected to her position in November 2022, making history as the first woman and openly gay person to fill the role in Massachusetts. She is also the nation’s first openly lesbian governor. She is running for re-election to a second term in office at the 2026 Massachusetts gubernatorial election.
