The 138-year-old shop will close April 5.

Somerville’s oldest bakery is getting a new address — just a few doors down from its longtime home.
Lyndell’s Bakery, the 138-year-old institution known for its classic moon cookies and old-school desserts, will relocate this spring, according to Wicked Local. The bakery plans to move from its longtime home at 720 Broadway in Somerville to nearby 734 Broadway.
Owner Bill Galatis, who has run the bakery for the past 25 years, told the publication that he learned last year the current building would be demolished and rebuilt as a mixed-use development. Although his landlord offered a return to the original space after construction, Galatis said he plans to invest in the new location instead — including increasing the bakery’s menu selection and purchasing new equipment.
The revamped shop will feature a half-glass wall allowing customers to see directly inside the production room, Galatis said.
Lyndell’s will temporarily close April 5, 2026 to accommodate the move, and aims to reopen before May 10 at the new address. All of the bakery’s favorites will remain on the menu, along with an expanded beverage menu.
Boston.com reached out to Lyndell’s Bakery for additional details but did not hear back in time for publication.
