Police are seeking charges against the 70-year-old driver.
Wilmington police are seeking charges against a 70-year-old school bus driver who they say inappropriately touched a child on his bus.
The bus driver, a Wilmington man, is being summonsed to Woburn District Court, and police are seeking two charges against him: assault and battery and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
“The defendant is not being identified at this time since he faces a criminal summons instead of arrest,” the department explained in a release. “He will be identified at a later time if a criminal arraignment is scheduled.”
Back on Monday, Dec. 8, police were notified of “potentially inappropriate social media activity” by the driver and began investigating. Then, last Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 10 and 11, with the investigation ongoing, more parents came forward with additional allegations, including a parent on Thursday who said the driver touched their child inappropriately.
“A subsequent investigation, which included review of video surveillance footage from the school bus, led investigators to determine that the bus driver allegedly touched a child inappropriately,” police said.
It’s unclear when the incident occurred.
Once the additional allegations surfaced, NRT Bus, which provides transportation services to Wilmington Public Schools, was notified and suspended the driver, according to police.
