A New York man fell off the roof of a moving bus on the Maine Turnpike on Friday.
Around 11:17 a.m., Maine State Police received a report of a man who fell off the roof of a moving bus in Kittery.
Upon arrival at the scene, police observed bus passengers and other motorists providing aid to a 35-year-old man.
Witnesses told police that the man said he was overheated before opening the bus’s emergency roof hatch and climbing onto the roof while the bus was moving.
The bus driver attempted to slow the bus down and pull over after realizing what the man was doing, police say.
The man then fell from the roof into a southbound shoulder on the turnpike, police say.
McDuffy was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital with injuries believed to be serious, but not life-threatening, police say.
A replacement Concord Coach bus arrived to pick up passengers, police say.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing by Maine State Police.
