Award-winning food host Padma Lakshmi was in Boston last week and gave a ringing endorsement after stopping by a local Indian-fusion restaurant.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Lakshmi said she was in the city for a book signing when “a few lovely women mentioned I should go to a place called Don’t Tell Aunty, and with a name like that I couldn’t resist!”

Located on Boylston Street, Don’t Tell Aunty bills itself as Boston’s first Indian gastro bar and boasts “bold flavors, tapas-style plates, and live music.”

“They serve Indian dishes with a gastropub twist, and I have to admit I was as skeptical as I am with any Indian-fusion restaurant,” Lakshmi wrote. “But everything we had was delicious — from the ramen rasam to the Parle-G ice cream sandwich.”

Lakshmi also gushed over the pub’s fried chicken wings tossed with milagai podi, saying the dish inspired her to make them at home.

Lakshmi was in Boston to appear as a featured speaker in the Museum of Fine Arts’ Shapiro Celebrity Lecture series and promote her upcoming book, “Padma’s All American.”

She later shared snaps from the event on Instagram and thanked her Boston fans for a strong and engaging turnout.

“Boston fans were so great, I even went out with a few for a drink after!” Lakshmi said. “Thank you for welcoming me with open arms, Boston!!”
