There appears to be no love lost between Tommy DeVito and his former team in the Giants.

The Patriots’ third-string QB spent two seasons in New York — starting eight total games over that stretch and becoming a fan favorite as “Tommy Cutlets” in the New York tri-state area.

But as the Patriots prepare to host the Giants on Monday Night Football, DeVito didn’t pull any punches when talking to MassLive’s Karen Guregian about New England’s matchup against his former club.

“I loved my time there,” DeVito told Guregian of facing the Giants. “When I was there, it was, ‘Go Giants’ but now it’s ‘Go Pats’ all the way. I hope we blow them out.”

Even though DeVito isn’t expected to be on the field for Monday’s primetime matchup against the Giants, he could serve as a valuable resource as the Patriots’ coaches game plan for a New York team that has been a hard out for several contending teams so far this season.

But Mike Vrabel pushed back against the assertion that a player like DeVito can be a trump card as far as preparing for a team like the Giants.

“The play styles of certain guys that he would understand and know – again, what the call sheet is, what it is, it’s just – if you could tell me when one of those calls is coming off of the 120 that are on the call sheet, I mean, that’d be a pretty good skill,” Vrabel said Saturday. “So, I think a lot of that gets overblown, and unless Tommy can tell us what play’s coming next, once the game starts, I don’t know if he’s going to be able to help us.”

Despite DeVito’s eventful two-year run with the Giants, the New Jersey native’s tenure in New York did end on a sour note.

DeVito sported a 65.3 completion percentage to go along with eight touchdowns and three interceptions over his time with New York. In his final game with the Giants, he threw for three touchdowns in a preseason bout against the Patriots in August.

But in a crowded Giants QB room featuring rookie Jaxson Dart, Russell Wilson, and Jameis Winston, DeVito was cut by New York shortly before the start of the regular season.

Even if the 10-2 Patriots are viewed as favorites against the 2-10 Giants, New England will need to move forward with several key injuries — with starting left tackle Will Campbell placed on injured reserve last week.

The Giants have been hampered by several key injuries to top playmakers like Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, but New York has lost its last three games by a combined 18 points.
