We’ve all seen fellow flyers dressed in baggy pajama bottoms at the airport. Perhaps that flyer is (ahem) you.

Well the Tampa International Airport has had enough of it, and suggested a ban on pajamas at the airport Thursday on social media.

The story generated thousands of comments and was picked up by newspapers and TV stations nationwide and, no doubt, contributed to water cooler talk at the office ahead of the weekend.

“We know this decision could be disruptive to someone in your life. It’s time to have a difficult conversation with them. You can do this. We (and Phoebe) [the airport mascot] believe in you,” read the post, in part. “The madness stops today. The movement starts now.”

One commenter wrote, “I can’t decide if people who wear pajamas in public have given up on life or are living it to the fullest.”

Before the comfort crowd gets its pajamas in a bunch, the post was not serious, according to an airport official.

“Our regular social media followers just eat this stuff up,” Beau Zimmer, an airport spokesperson, told The Associated Press. “But obviously this is all in fun, and we encourage our travelers to be comfortable.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reacted to the post on X, posting a GIF of Newton native John Krasinski from the TV show “The Office” doing a fist pump and saying, “Yes!”

In November, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a campaign called “The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You,” aimed to inspire a “return to civility” in travel.

Travel has become more unruly, according to the campaign, which noted that the FAA has seen a 400% increase of in-flight outbursts since 2019.

One of the things travelers should ask themselves when they are traveling by air is “Are you dressing with respect?” according to the campaign.
