Somerville police suspect a possible “bad batch” of drugs is being distributed following a recent spike in reported overdoses.

Three of the five overdoses that the department responded to were fatal, city officials said in an advisory Monday. Investigators now suspect that the uptick in overdoses is related to a dangerous batch of drugs.

Officials did not identify any of the victims by name, and police have not confirmed any arrests of alleged suppliers in connection with the overdoses. However, they did advise residents to take necessary precautions, including calling 911 if they suspect an overdose.

Free fentanyl test strip kits and Narcan are available at Somerville Public Libraries, and 24/7 health vending machines are located outside the West Branch library at 40 College Ave. and Project Soup at 165 Broadway, according to officials. Local recovery services and support are also available on the Somerville Hub website.
