When TreVeyon Henderson joins the Patriots’ huddle on offense, the back of his jersey sticks out like a sore thumb. The font on the nameplate of Henderson’s jersey has looked conspicuously smaller than that of his Patriots teammates.

Well, there’s finally an answer for why Henderson’s nameplate font looks noticeably different. The Patriots’ rookie running back prefers to have the stripes on his jersey sit close to the nameplate, which caused the equipment staff to squeeze the lettering of Henderson’s name, The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini reported Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Henderson actually told The Boston Herald‘s Andrew Callahan that he wasn’t sure why his jersey looked the way it did. However, he doesn’t have any complaints about having an unusual look.

“I low-key like it,” Henderson told Callahan.

Henerson’s jersey seemingly became one of the biggest mysteries in the NFL through the first couple of months of the season. Former NFL quarterback and current NFL on Amazon analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick asked for some help in trying to figure out why Henderson’s jersey looked the way it did, even getting into some social media back-and-forths about the matter.

Henderson’s reason for wearing No. 32, meanwhile, is clearer.

“I’ve been wearing No. 32 pretty much since Little League,” Henderson said in June. “My granddad, he was a great running back, and he used to wear number 32. He passed away, and so I wear it to carry on his legacy and make my mom proud. Last year, winning the national championship in his number 32, that’s my favorite memory.”

Henderson, who the Patriots took in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, hasn’t made a big impact so far in the regular season after emerging as a standout in the preseason. He’s rushed for just 148 yards on 3.6 yards per carry and a touchdown so far this season, adding 16 receptions for 99 yards.

But now that the nameplate conundrum has been solved, maybe Henderson will start to turn things around.
